The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 cup milk
4 teaspoons baking powder
directions
Cream the butter and sugar and add the well beaten egg. Mix well. Sift the dry ingredients and add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
Pour into a well-greased cake pan and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes. Cut in squares.
