One of the secrets to great success in the crockpot? Browning the meat in a skillet first. Pan-frying the cube steaks nice and crispy makes all the difference in this recipe.

2 1/2 pounds cube steaks
salt
black pepper
flour
cooking oil
1 package onion gravy mix
1 can (10.75 ounce size) cream of mushroom soup
2 cups water
Season the cube steaks with the salt and pepper. Dredge the cube steaks in flour and shake off any excess.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add enough oil to coat the bottom. Fry the floured cube steaks on both sides until browned. Place the browned cube steaks in the crock pot.
Combine the gravy mix, soup, and water in a bowl and mix well. Pour over the cube steaks.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 6 hours or until the meat is cooked through.
Serve the cube steaks and gravy over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Make sure you fry the steaks crisp so they don't get too soggy in the crock pot. Good flavor I thought.

A little on the salty side so don't season the meat beforehand! Good though and the cube steaks were nicely done.

Good way to make cube steaks very tender. I just use regular beef gravy mix as I haven't found onion gravy mix before. I don't find it needs any extra salt but I do add black pepper.
