Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

ingredients
2 pounds bulk sausage
1 can (20 ounce size) pineapple chunks, drained
1 1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
directions
Mix up the bulk sausage with your hands and form into small meatballs.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning gently, until browned on all sides. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the meatballs and pineapple to the crock pot.
In a bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, and lemon juice and stir until well mixed. Pour over the meatballs in the crock pot and stir gently to coat the meat in the sauce.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 3-4 hours or until the meatballs are cooked through.

I use hot italian bulk sausage because I think it pairs better than plain sausage with the sweet sauce. Very easy recipe and everyone always asks for it.

Every time there is a get-together with our church ladies, I am always asked to make sweet and sour meatballs. Everyone loves the recipe and I have to double it or else I have complaints by those who didn't get any! I only do one thing different and that is I use frozen meatballs. It takes maybe two minutes to throw everything together in the crockpot and turn it on! I usually don't like pineapples anywhere near meat, this is the only exception!
