The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

Dust off that trusty crock pot of yours because we're going to semi-skillfully throw some apples and crumbs together for dessert. It's all about liberating flavors with minimal work and delicious results.
5 cooking apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
5 tablespoons cold butter, cut up
Grease the inside of the crock pot. Place the apples in the bottom.
Combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, ginger, nutmeg, and butter in a bowl. Cut the mixture with a pastry blender until it forms coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 3-4 hours or until the apples are tender.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

I wanted this for an ice cream topping so I used more sugar and less flour so it would get sort of a sauce on it. Turned out wonderfully!
