This two-ingredient recipe is amazingly good with just the right amount of lemon flavor. hint: it also works with other pie filling flavors.

This recipe sounds delicious! I have tried the recipe using a 20 oz can of crushed pineapple and the Angel Food cake mix. I used Betty Crocker's Angel Food but it has to be the mix with ONE package.

Under no circumstances could this mess be called a "bar"... the end result was a sticky and heavy lump of doughy cake-like substance. I cooked it for 25 mins til the top was brown with tell-tale cracks indicating "doneness". Toothpick came out clean. This concoction didn't rise. Thank goodness it was easy and inexpensive and thank goodness I made it "just because" and not for company.

    • Sounds like maybe you overmixed the batter. We've made these many times and they are a moist bar but not doughy and they should rise a bit (they are a thin bar they do rise). It can also depend on the brand of angel food cake mix (store brands can be of lesser quality)

Comes out delicous and they always ask for more. I use Duncan Hines Signature Angel Food Cake Mix And Kroger's private selection lemon fruit filling 23 oz. Mix it until no powder remains and i butter a throw away 12 3/4" by 9" stuffing pan. 25 minutes. First time I mixed it too much and it fell.

  4. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

JUST WONDERING FOR THESE BARS DO YOU USE DRY ANGEL FOOD CAKE OR PREPARE AS INSTRUCTED ON PACKAGE BEFORE YOU ADD PIE FILLING

  7. char

Can you use cook& serve pudding? I couldn't find canned lemon pie filling.

  8. Lemony

Is it ok to use the lemon creme pie filling instead of the plain lemon pie filling?

  9. Guest Foodie

is it the canned lemon pie filling mix that is called for, or is it the stuff you make from a mix?

  10. PWE REVIEW:

I used the 17x11 jelly roll pan and they turned out perfectly. So yummy.

  11. Julie H REVIEW:

The angel food cake mix I had had two bags in it, one was the egg white & the other was the flour mixture. So I mixed the two then added the pie filling & baked the time I was told to. A) Do all angel food cake mixes have two pouches? 1) It was poofed up, so I thought I undercooked it. I did take it out after another 3 min & added the powered sugar, after 10 min or so it did flatten, but the consistency is thick. What did I do wrong?

Really want to try this, I have the large size jelly roll pan 13 x 17 1/2 will that work?

  13. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

  14. GlassGal

This is so simple AND so delicious. Got MANY rave reviews. Also, I added cream cheese frosting with a few sprinkles of pecans! YUM!

  15. Guest Foodie

It sounds easy and delicious. So, it's just the cake mix and pie filling or are you adding water also as the cake mix requires? thanks

    • : Yes, it's just the two ingredients (cake mix and pie filling)

  16. Baker Chick REVIEW:

I didn't honestly think this recipe would work, based on only 2 ingredients, but since I had the lemon pie filling and had no other real use for it, I decided to go for it! Surprisingly, it turned out great and my family is loving it! wow.something so simple can work!I will keep the ingredients on hand, because it's quick and easy to make.

  17. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

Found this recipe at another site a few years back and made it for my students on a couple occasions. Also, I used a cream cheese frosting with a touch of lemon zest. Really tricked it out nicely. Definitely more lemon cake than bar, but my students loved it and so did this non-baker.

  18. Deb

I tried this and I sure don't know how I could have messed up, but they didn't look like bars to me. It was like 1" high cake, and not gooey at all.

  19. Val REVIEW:

At first it would seem there is not enough 'liquid' but the lemon pie filling really soaks up the cake mix. The bars turn out with the angel food cake spongy, sticky texture plus tender coconut chewiness. It is a good blend of lemon and coconut flavors without being overwhelming. And FAST, cheap, and easy to make!!!!
