Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
Creamy Peppermint Patties

ingredients
1 package (8 ounce size) cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
9 cups confectioners' sugar
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3 tablespoons shortening
directions
In a large mixing bowl beat the cream cheese and extract until smooth. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, beating well. Shape into 1-inch balls.
Place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Flatten into patties. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour or until chilled.
In a microwave melt chips and shortening; stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
Dip patties into melted chocolate; place on waxed paper until firm. Store in the refrigerator.

I want to make these for a cookie exchange. Do these have to stay refrigerated. Yesterday I made a batch similar to these and when they were at room temp they were too mushy to pick up, although they were still amazing. How would you package them?

My mother and I use this recipe every year to make these, they are absolutely amazing!

These came out great and everyone loved them. They were easy to make. however I did not use shortening in the chocolate.
