Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

reviews & comments
Baker beware. This recipe is flawed. If you've ever baked scones before you'll notice that the baking powder is missing - you'll wind up with date-nut cookies! Also, 8 oz of chopped dates is ALOT - most scone recipes call for 1/2 cup of dried fruit. I adjusted the recipe accordingly (added a tablespoon of baking powder) and 1/2 cup of chopped dates and it was fine.
