Cranberry Cake With Hot Butter Sauce

ingredients
2 tablespoons butter (no substitutes)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 7/8 cup flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 cups whole, raw cranberries
Butter Sauce
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
directions
Cream butter and sugar together thoroughly. Beat in vanilla.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add to creamed mixture alternating with the milk. Fold in cranberries. Pour into greased and floured 9 X 9 inch pan.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool, cut into squares and serve with hot butter sauce.
For Hot Butter Sauce: Melt butter in saucepan. Blend in sugar. Stir in cream and simmer 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sauce may be made ahead and kept refrigerated. Heat through before serving.
