under 30 minutes
ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/4 cup shortening
5 tablespoons water, more if needed
1 can (20 to 22 ounce size) apple pie filling
confectioners' sugar
directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Combine flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in shortening. Sprinkle dough with water a tablespoon at a time, until just enough has been added so dough can be patted into a ball.
On a floured surface, roll half of dough into a 10 x 15-inch rectangle. Cut into 5-inch squares. Repeat with other half of dough.
Place about 2 tablespoons of fruit filling in each square. Fold over one half of pastry to form a triangle. Seal edges firmly with a fork. Prick top with fork.
Bake on ungreased baking sheets for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool slightly; sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
