ingredients

3 unpeeled baking apples, coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 cups sweetened, dried cranberries, coarsely chopped
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 cup orange juice
1 cup brown sugar
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
3/4 cup vegetable oil

directions

Coat apples with lemon juice immediately after chopping to prevent discoloration, drain.

Combine apples, cranberries, allspice and orange juice in saucepan and cook over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Mix together remaining ingredients, press slightly more than half the mixture into the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan that's been lightly sprayed with cooking oil.

Spread filling, top with remaining crumble mixture and press lightly. Bake at 400 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes.

  1. dor REVIEW:

I just made these - with some substitutions - DELICIOUS I used cranberies but instead of OJ I used water and Cranberry Pomegranite (Northland no sugar added)Microwaved 6 mins then added 2 c homemade apple sauce, Heated together with Allspice. It was warm when I sandwiched it between the crumb mixture - I substituted Coconut oil and reduced the sugar to 2/3 c. I then sprinkled the top with 4 t coconut flour. I haven't let it cool yet, but maybe it will firm up if I refrigerate. Sweet enough to be a desert when warm.

My kiddo loves these bars and they are perfect for back to school!

  3. Bev REVIEW:

Absolutely yummy. Instead of 2cups dried cranberries, I used 2 cups altogether of fresh raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. I decreased sugar to 1/2 cup so it was not so sweet and left out allspice. It was perfect. Will make again and pass it along to friends.
