Double Fudge Saucepan Brownies

ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons water
1 package (12 ounce size) semisweet chocolate chips, divided
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
directions
Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 9 inch square baking pan.
In a medium saucepan over low heat, cook sugar, butter and water, stirring constantly until mixture comes to the boil.
Remove from heat and immediately add 1 cup of chocolate chips, stirring until chips are melted. Stir in eggs and vanilla until blended.
Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Stir into chocolate mixture. Stir in remaining chocolate chips and nuts if desired.
Pour into prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
