What's the secret ingredient in these cakes? Pudding mix. It not only adds flavor but it gives the cake a richer, creamier texture. No one will know your secret ingredient!

This effortless slow cooker chicken dish is really elevated by the fresh sliced mushrooms, which go beautifully in the rich sour cream sauce.

1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
6 skinless, bone-in chicken breast halves
1 can (10.75 ounce size) cream of mushroom soup
1 container (8 ounce size) sour cream
1/2 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
Combine the salt, pepper, paprika, lemon pepper, and garlic powder in a small bowl. Rub the chicken on all sides with the seasoning mixture. Place the chicken in the bottom of the crock pot.
In another bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and wine.
Add the fresh mushrooms to the crock pot. Pour the cream of mushroom soup mixture evenly over the chicken and mushrooms.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 4 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through.
Serve the mushroom chicken in sour cream sauce over rice, mashed potatoes, or couscous.
Add fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for a burst of fresh flavor.
If you prefer a stronger mushroom flavor, add a splash of mushroom broth or soy sauce.
Check the chicken for doneness by making sure it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can remove the cooked chicken and mushrooms and reduce the sauce on the stove before serving.
To make it a one-pot meal, toss in some cooked pasta during the last 30 minutes of cooking to absorb the flavors of the sauce.
Yes, boneless chicken breasts can be used instead of bone-in, but they will cook faster, so adjust the cooking time accordingly.
To thicken the sauce, you can add a cornstarch slurry (a mixture of cornstarch and water) to the crock pot during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
You can add additional vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or carrots to the crock pot, just adjust the cooking time as needed.
Store any leftover mushroom chicken in sour cream sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
You can freeze the cooked mushroom chicken in sour cream sauce for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
Reheat the leftovers gently in the microwave or on the stove over low heat to prevent the sauce from separating.
Button mushrooms are the most commonly used in a recipe like this but you can use portobello, cremini, shiitake, etc.

Crock Pot/Slow Cooker: The main cooking tool for this recipe.
Measuring Cups and Spoons: For accurately measuring the ingredients.
Spatula: For combining the sauce ingredients.
Roasted Asparagus: the earthy flavor of the roasted asparagus will complement the mushrooms in the sauce, adding a fresh element to the dish.
Crusty French Bread: use the bread to soak up every last drop of the delicious sour cream sauce.
Creamy Mashed Potatoes: the velvety mashed make a perfect bed to serve the savory chicken and creamy sauce over.
Crisp Caesar Salad: the crispness of the romaine lettuce paired with the tangy Caesar dressing will provide a fresh contrast to the creamy mushroom chicken.
Wine Pairings
Chardonnay: A buttery chardonnay can bring out the creaminess in the sour cream sauce while adding a touch of oakiness that complements the mushrooms. Look for one with a bit of acidity to balance out the richness of the dish.
Sauvignon Blanc: This crisp white wine can cut through the richness of the sour cream sauce and refresh your palate between bites. Opt for a Sauvignon Blanc with citrus undertones to enhance the flavors of the chicken and mushrooms.
Pinot Noir: The light-bodied nature and red fruit flavors of a pinot noir can be a nice contrast to the creamy sauce and mushrooms, adding depth to each bite without overpowering the dish.
Other Alcohol Pairings
Vodka Martini: The clean, neutral taste of a vodka martini can act as a palate cleanser between bites.
Gin and Tonic: The botanical notes in gin can complement the earthy flavors of the mushrooms, while the tonic water can provide a slight bitterness that balances out the creamy richness of the sauce.
Dark and Stormy: The spicy kick of ginger beer in a Dark and Stormy can add some excitement to each bite of the creamy chicken dish.
Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Lemonade: A tall glass of lemonade can bring a burst of citrusy freshness to each bite, cutting through the richness of the sour cream sauce.
Sparkling Water: It's a simple and straightforward choice for a non-alcoholic pairing.

Can I use Chicken thighs? If so, is there a time difference, High/Low?
The cooking time will be about the same for bone-in chicken thighs. Just make sure to check the chicken for doneness using a meat thermometer.

Very good and very easy. Added 2 cups cooked egg noodles before serving. Would leave out the lemon pepper seasoning next time.
