Going vegetarian is no reason to miss out on favorites like the chili dog. Veggie dogs and veggie chili are par for the course but some add-ins take standard dogs to the next level.

ingredients

non-stick cooking spray
4 frozen low-fat vegetarian hot dogs, thawed
1 can (15 ounce size) 99%-fat-free vegetarian chili with beans
4 teaspoons spicy brown mustard
4 lite wheat hot dog buns, toasted
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup preshredded reduced-fat sharp Cheddar cheese

directions

Place a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat. Add hot dogs, and cook until evenly browned, turning frequently.

Pour chili into a small saucepan; cook over medium heat until bubbly.

Spread 1 teaspoon mustard over inside of each hot dog bun. Place hot dogs in buns; spoon chili evenly over each hot dog. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon onion and 2 tablespoons cheese over each hot dog.

    We had two vegetarians to our party last weekend and I was making chili dogs for everyone. Made these for our vegetarian guests. I did have to research a bit on which brands of vegetarian hot dogs were best and found that the only ones I could get locally that were rated as most like regular hot dogs were the tofurky brand. My vegetarian guests enjoyed these a lot and asked for the recipe.
