Portugese Bread Dessert

ingredients

3 quarts milk
1 cup honey
3 cinnamon sticks
1 lemon, grated zest of
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
2 loaves French bread
oil (for frying)
12 eggs, beaten
cinnamon
sugar

directions

Combine milk, honey, cinnamon sticks, lemon peel, salt and sugar in a large saucepan. Simmer for 1 hour. Remove from heat.

Cut bread into 1/2 inch slices. Heat oil in a skillet. Dip bread first in milk and honey mixture and then in eggs. Fry in oil until light brown. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Serve cold.
