Slow Cooker Balsamic Caramelized Onions

ingredients
3 pounds onions, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
directions
Combine all ingredients in the container of a crock pot (or other slow cooker). Cover and cook on low heat for 12 hours.
Serve with pork, swordfish or tuna, grilled eggplant or roasted or grilled chicken.
