Braised Cabbage With Red Currant Jelly

ingredients
1 head red cabbage, shredded
1 onion, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup butter
1 apple, peeled and diced
1/2 cup red currant jelly
1/4 cup hot water
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
directions
Combine shredded cabbage, sugar, salt and vinegar in a large bowl. Let sit for 30 minutes.
Melt the butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion and saute 5 minutes until soft. Add diced apple and saute 5 more minutes. Add cabbage mixture to Dutch oven and bring to a boil; reduce heat.
Combine jelly, hot water, cloves, and cinnamon. Add to cabbage mixture. Cover and simmer 1 hour or until tender. Serve hot.
