ingredients

40 cloves garlic
2 sprigs fresh rosemary
2 sprigs thyme
2 sprigs sage
2 sprigs Italian parsley
ground black pepper to taste
3 pounds roasting or fryer chicken
3 stalks celery
1 Loaf French bread, optional

directions

Rinse chicken in cold water and pat dry. Put celery on the bottom of the crockpot. Put 1 sprig of each herb into the cavity of the chicken. Place chicken on top of the celery.

Cut up the rest of the herbs and sprinkle on top of the chicken. Add ground pepper to taste. Peel garlic, leave skin on, and place on top and around chicken.

Cook on low for 8-9 hours. The cooked garlic can be used in place as garlic butter for the French bread. Just squeeze and spread onto bread slices.

  1. mary01 REVIEW:

40 clove garlic chicken is one of my favorites. This recipe is very easy and tasty and the chicken was quite tender in the crock pot. Don't over cook it (and if your crock pot heats hot, cook it for less time) or it will fall apart too much or even dry out.

Hello! This recipe is awesome! I only used 25 cloves of garlic though..lol. It was easy to make!!

  3. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

I love this recipe! It's VERY easy to throw together, and it's a real unique treat to squeeze the cooked garlic out of it's peel onto a slice of bread. It's like BUTTER! You can use the juices to make up a tasty gravy too.
