Bavarian Red Cabbage

ingredients
1 large head red cabbage
2 medium onions coarsely chopped
6 tart apples, cored & quartered
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups hot water
3 tablespoons sugar
2/3 cup cider vinegar
6 tablespoons bacon grease or melted butter
directions
Remove the outer leaves from the cabbage. Coarsely chop the cabbage, removing the core.
Place the cabbage, onions, and apples in the crock pot.
In a bowl or large measuring cup, combine the salt, water, sugar, vinegar, and bacon grease. Mix well then pour over the ingredients in the crock pot.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or until the cabbage is tender.
Stir well before serving.

Nice one. I printed this, and had that stupid Dawn ad over the top of the recipe. Had to copy/paste the text to Notepad to be able to print it.

My German Grand mother makes this except she adds the following- Cloves,and a bay leaf or two. And a pinch of sugar. Makes the world of differance.

This is a great recipe for red cabbage. The second time I used it, I addes some peeled and cubed potatoes.
