The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

1-2 hrs
ingredients
1/2 pound raw bacon, chopped
3 cups onions, julienne cut
salt
freshly ground black pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 can (12 ounce size) beer or water
6 pounds spinach greens*, cleaned and stemmed
directions
* or use mustard greens, collard greens, turnip greens or kale
In a large pot, fry the bacon until crispy, about 5 minutes. Add the onions and cook for about 6 to 7 minutes or until the onions are wilted. Season the mixture with salt, pepper and a pinch of cayenne.
Add the garlic and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the beer or water. Stir in the greens, a third at a time, pressing the greens down as they start to wilt. Cook the greens uncovered for about an 1 hour 15 minutes.

Nutritional data has not been calculated yet.It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
