Ingredients:
1 egg
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 heaping tablespoons all-purpose flour; see note
1 cup sweet milk, up to double as needed
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 package vanilla wafers; see other note
ripe (or slightly overripe) bananas

Directions:

Beat egg. Combine sugar, flour, milk and salt. Stir in beaten egg. Stir mixture over very low flame until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency; this can take quite a while. Cool and add vanilla. Layer into trifle dish or mixing bowl as follows: a big spoonful of sauce, a layer of sliced bananas, more sauce, a layer of vanilla wafers. Continue in that order until ingredients are gone.

Note: This is a minimum amount of flour; My grandmother just eye balled it. Obviously, the more milk you use, the more flour will be required to thicken it. How much sauce she made depended on how many bananas she was trying to use up and/or how many of us she was planning on having for dinner.

Other Note: Grandmother bought these in a bag; I don't know the exact size but I'd guess a pound or so. Bag was about 10 x 6 (inches), if that helps.
