Texas Kidney Bean Soup

ingredients
1 cup dried red kidney beans*
1 large potato, cubed
2 cups cooked tomatoes
1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup water
1 cup cabbage, shredded
directions
* soaked overnight and drained
Cover beans with salted water and simmer until tender. Add potato and tomatoes, and simmer until done.
Brown meat and onion, then add remaining ingredients except cabbage. Combine meat mixture and cabbage with beans. Add enough water to make 4 qt. of soup. Simmer until all ingredients are tender.
