ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup oatmeal
1 cup chocolate chips
directions
Combine all ingredients.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 8 to 10 minutes. Do not overcook.

At The Pfeiffer House in Bastrop, Texas, Marilyn allows for exactly 9 minutes in her oven. Make certain that you check at 8 minutes. They will look almost undercooked. Remove from oven when they are just turning tan on top, yet still soft.
