1/3 cup soft margarine
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
TOPPING
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Using electric mixer, cream margarine and sugar until smooth. Add applesauce, vanilla and egg and beat well. Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking powder, baking soda; mix well.
Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes or until evenly browned.
TOPPING: Combine sugar with cinnamon. Sprinkle over hot cookies.

A lower fat whole wheat cookie that's not gross! These were really good. Soft and tasty. I used unsalted butter and added 1/2 tsp salt. Reduced cloves to 1/4 tsp. Definitely plan on making again. Only gave a 4 since I made changes and can't vouch a 5 for the original. But my toddler loved them!
