ingredients

3 pounds sweet potatoes
1 can (12 ounce size) sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground mace
1/2 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 cup pecan halves (or chopped pecans, if desired)

directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Bring a large pan of water to a boil over high heat. Add the sweet potatoes and cook for 30 minutes or until tender. Drain the potatoes and let cool. When cool enough to handle, remove the skins and cube the sweet potatoes to yield about 4 cups.

Combine the sweet potatoes, sweetened condensed milk, butter, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and mace in a mixing bowl. Mash until smooth and combined. Transfer the mixture to the greased baking dish. Place the dish in the oven and bake at 400 degrees F for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, graham cracker crumbs, and pecans in a bowl and mix until crumbly.

Spread the pecan topping over the top of the sweet potato casserole. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the topping is lightly browned.

Remove the sweet potato casserole from the oven and serve hot.

I made this for Christmas. Everyone loved it! I did substitute canned yams/sweet potatoes instead of the real ones. Very Good!!!
