Chocolate Buttermilk Pie

ingredients
1 1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 deep dish pie crust
7 eggs
1 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup buttermilk
whipped cream, for garnish
directions
Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Place a rack in the center of the oven.
Place the chocolate chips in a double boiler and melt over low heat, stirring constantly. Place the pre-made pie crust in a pan and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the eggs, vanilla, salt, sugar and buttermilk, and mix with electric mixer. With a rubber spatula, gently stir the melted chocolate into the batter.
Pour batter into the pie crust. Place in oven on middle rack. Bake for 1 hour. Remove from oven and cool completely. If not eating immediately, refrigerate pie.
Garnish with whipped cream just before serving.
