Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.
Slow Cooker Cantonese Sweet and Sour Chicken or Pork

ingredients
2 pounds boneless chicken breasts or pork, cut into strips
1 green bell pepper, seeded, cut into strips
1 red bell pepper, seeded, cut into strips
1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups pineapple chunks, reserve juice
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
Chow mein noodles for serving
directions
Place chicken or pork, peppers strips and onion in crockpot. In bowl mix brown sugar and cornstarch.
Add 1 cup reserved pineapple juice, vinegar, water, soy sauce and salt, blend until smooth. Pour over chicken and veggies.
Cover and cook on low 7 to 9 hours.
One hour before serving, add pineapple chunks, stir into meat and sauce. Serve over Chow Mein noodles.

This was good but a bit bland. The sweet and sour mixture lost some of its flavor during the long cooking time. Our recommendation: reserve 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the mixture and stir in when you add the pineapple. We served this with the chow mein noodles and rice
