I love Days of our Lives and this recipe is from Alice Hortons kitchen. Thought I'd give it a trial run for Doughnut Day. I'm an avid baker so I made the full batch and was very, very disappointed. The baked doughnuts came out flat (had new flour & baking powder) and made the perfect dog biscuits to which my dog is still enjoying. I decided to deep fry the rest of the batch. Much better and tastier.
I made a half recipe. While these came out fairly well, I can't recommend them as donuts, unless you like heavier cake donuts. But they were quite tasty right out of the oven! I might add a little more salt next time, as these didn't have very much depth of flavor, a little too bland and sweet.
The issue with the heavier texture may be due to you halving the recipe. Not all recipes halve or double perfectly and this is most commonly a problem in baked goods because there is more "chemistry" involved between the ingredients.
