1 package (14 ounce size) caramel candy
3 tablespoons water
5 cups crisped rice cereal
1 cup peanuts
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips

directions

Melt caramels with water in double boiler over low heat, stirring frequently until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth.

Pour over combined cereal and nuts in a bowl and toss until well coated. With greased fingers, press mixture into a greased 9" x 13" pan.

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F. Sprinkle chocolate and butterscotch chips over mixture, then bake 5 minutes, or until chips are softened.

Remove pan from oven and spread melted topping over bars to form a frosting. Cool, cut in bars.

  1. Guest Foodie REVIEW:

My mom used to make these bars when I was a kid in the '70s. I have been searching for this recipe since my mom does not have it anymore. They are the best rice krispie treats I have ever had. I have missed not having them. I am so glad to have found the recipe. Thank you!
