1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup plain flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup melted butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
3/4 cup caramel ice cream topping
3 tablespoons plain flour

directions

Combine first six ingredients to form crumbly mixture; press half of mix into greased 9 inch square pan and bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees F. Remove from oven. Sprinkle baked layer with chocolate chips and chopped pecans.

Mix caramel ice cream topping with remaining plain flour. Drizzle this mix over chips and nuts. Top with remaining crumbs from first mixture.

Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool thoroughly before cutting into small squares for serving.

    Why soda?

    • Baking soda is a leavening agent commonly found in baked goods.

I'm so glad I found this recipe. I've been making these for 20 years and should have it down pat in my brain but I lost the recipe and was happy to find it here. Every time I make these, everyone goes wild. They are delicious!
