For added texture, add sesame seeds or nuts like cashews or peanuts as a topping before serving.

Marinate the beef in soy sauce and ginger for added flavor before cooking.

common recipe questions

What cut of beef is best for stir-fry?

Flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye are great choices for stir-frying, as they are tender and cook quickly. Look for cuts labeled specifically for stir-fry.

Can I use fresh vegetables instead of frozen?

Yes, fresh vegetables can be used instead of frozen. Just be sure to cut them into uniform sizes and saute until just barely crisp tender before adding to the crock pot.

Can I substitute another type of soup for the cream of mushroom?

You can substitute cream of chicken soup or any other creamy soup, but this will alter the flavor.

How can I make this dish spicier?

To add heat, add sliced jalapeno peppers, crushed red pepper flakes, or a dash of sriracha into the stir-fry mixture.

Is it possible to use a different protein besides beef?

Yes, chicken, pork, tofu, or seitan can be used as alternative proteins in this stir-fry. Adjust cooking times as needed for different proteins.

What is the best way to cut the beef for stir-fry?

Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips. This technique helps to break down muscle fibers, making the meat easier to chew.

Can I cook this dish on the stovetop instead of in a crock pot?

You can cook this on the stovetop. Brown the beef in a pan, add the vegetables and soup mixture, and simmer for about 20-30 minutes until the beef is cooked through.

How can I store leftovers?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Make sure it's cooled before sealing.

Can I freeze the cooked stir-fry?

Yes, leftover stir-fry can be frozen in freezer-safe containers for up to 2-3 months.

Can I add other seasonings or spices to the dish?

Feel free to add garlic, ginger, soy sauce, or other spices.

tools needed

Crock Pot: For cooking the steak stir-fry.

Measuring Cups: Used to measure out the 1 1/2 cups of water or milk.

Mixing Bowl: For combining the onion soup mix, water or milk, and cream of mushroom soup before pouring it over the meat and vegetables.

Spatula or Spoon: Used for gently stirring the steak and vegetables together after adding the soup mixture.

what goes with it?

Rice Pilaf: serve the stir-fry over a buttery rice pilaf.

Mashed Potatoes: pair with creamy mashed potatoes for a lush dish. The richness of the potatoes adds a balance to the savory flavors of the beef.

Noodles: serve with udon or soba noodles, which will soak up the sauce and provide a chewy contrast to the tender meat.

Garlic Bread: serve with garlic bread for a simple side that adds a crunchy contrast.

Sesame Seeds: sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the finished dish for added crunch and a nutty flavor.

Chili Oil: offer a side of chili oil for those who enjoy a bit of heat. The spice can boost the dish and add an exciting kick to the rich, creamy base.

Sour Cream: serve with a dollop of sour cream to lighten the dish and provide a tangy contrast to the rich flavors of the beef and soup.

Homemade Onion Soup Mix: If you want to control the sodium content better, use your own onion soup mix using sodium-free beef bouillon granules in the recipe (and use low sodium cream soup).

beverage pairings

Wine Pairings
Cabernet Sauvignon: This full-bodied wine is great here because it has bold flavors that can stand up to the heartiness of the beef stir-fry. Look for one with dark fruit notes, maybe even chocolate hints, to really complement that rich savory dish.

Syrah/Shiraz: A wine like Syrah packs a spiciness and depth that works nicely with savory beef. Go for a bottle with juicy berry flavors and black pepper notes.

Merlot: A smoother, less tannic option, Merlot balances the richness of the steak well. Choose one that's fruit-forward with lots of plum and cherry.

Other Alcohol Pairings
Malbec: This dark, fruity wine has spicy and herbal notes that match pretty well with stir-fried beef. You'll want one that has a hint of oakiness to complement the savory elements of your dish.

Asian-inspired Lager: A crisp, light lager instead of a heavier beer will not distract from your stir-fry. Look for something that's effervescent and smooth.

Prelude Red Blend: Red blends often offer a mix of fruitiness and subtle spice, making them versatile enough to work with your vegetable and beef combo.

Non-Alcoholic Pairings
Ginger Tea: A warm cup of ginger tea not only adds an aromatic note, but it also has a zesty kick that goes wonderfully with steak and veggies.

Thyme-Infused Lemonade: Try a comfy version by boosting classic lemonade with some infusion of thyme.

Pineapple Juice: This sugary, tropical splash would offer a nice sweet contrast to the savory components of the stew.
