The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

Just made this recipe to be part of a cheese plate. I used dried cherries instead of cranberries, since that was what I had on hand. I also added a little apple cider vinegar and then really cooked the onions down until they were soft. It turned out so good I'm going to have to make a larger batch soon! I'd say this is not a 3/5 difficulty- only a 1 or 2. Highly recommend.
This was delicious! Relatively easy to make, just takes time to get onions caramelized, but can be made ahead and reheated. Everyone I have sent this recipe to loves it. If you like caramelized onions you will LOVE this recipe.
