Cadillac Ranch serves this chili on their nachos but it's just as good served by itself (or topped with cheese, green onions, sour cream!)

serves/makes:

ready in:
  30-60 minutes

ingredients

2 pounds ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 can (16 ounce size) tomato sauce
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 can (15 ounce size) chili beans, undrained
salt and pepper, as needed

directions

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, garlic, bell pepper, and onion. Cook until the meat is no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease.

Add the tomato sauce, bay leaf, chili powder, and chili beans. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let simmer for 30-60 minutes. Remove the bay leaf, season with salt and pepper if desired, and serve the chili hot.

recipe tips

Brown the meat thoroughly for best flavor.

Simmer the chili slowly to allow the flavors to develop fully.

Stir the chili occasionally to prevent sticking and burning.

Taste and adjust the seasoning as the chili simmers.

Use a heavy-bottomed pot for even heat distribution.

Serve the chili hot for the best taste and texture.

Offer a variety of toppings to go with the chili.
