Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

This is one of our favorite snack mixes because of its unique blend of flavors. You can substitute low sodium taco seasoning (or, even better, make your own from scratch).
2 cans (3 ounce size) French fried onions
1 can (7 ounce size) potato sticks
2 cups Spanish peanuts
1/3 cup melted butter
1 package (1.25 ounce size) dry taco seasoning mix
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
Combine onions, potato sticks, and peanuts in a large bowl. Drizzle with butter while gently stirring to thoroughly coat. Sprinkle with taco seasoning and mix well.
Place the snack mix in a 9x13 baking dish or on a baking sheet with sides. Place in oven and bake for 45 minutes at 250 degrees F, stirring every 15 minutes.
Let cool then serve or store in an airtight container for up to a few days.

Great snack mix recipe! Of course, how could any recipe with potato sticks be bad?? The fried onions kind of fall apart and end up adding a nice, toasted onion background flavor. I added a bag of Goldfish Crackers (impulse buy at the store) which added some color and interest. The potato sticks retain their crispness even days later (still munching on them!); just keep them in an airtight container. Yummy.
