Feeling adventurous? Try these battered and fried fresh cicadas for a crunchy snack. While you can catch them yourselves when in season, it's easier to buy them at an Asian market.
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
3 cups all-purpose flour
salt and pepper, as desired
other seasonings, as desired
60 freshly emerged 17 year cicadas
Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the beaten egg in a shallow dish. Place the flour plus any desired seasonings (salt, pepper, cayenne, etc) in another dish.
Dip the cicadas (preferably still alive) in the beaten egg then roll them in the seasoned flour so they are completely coated. Shake off any excess flour.
Add the coated cicadas to the skillet and cook them, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and crisp.
Let drain on paper toweling.
Serve hot.

The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
It may look like a sad little package shoved in the back of your freezer, but frozen spinach actually has a lot of culinary uses (and some may surprise you).

I HAVE TO TELL YOU; this is the most disgusting dish!! It is a big turn-off to even see this on a cooking site or food recipe site. INSECT RECIPES SHOULD NOT APPEAR ON A FOOD SITE. DO YOU HONESTLY THINK PEOPLE WILL BE INTERESTED IN EATING RECIPES THAT CONTAIN INSECTS ????!!! ARE YOU FOR REAL??????THIS RECIPE WILL TURN AWAY MANY FOLLOWERS OF YOUR SITE, I ASSURE YOU!!!
Actually, this recipe has been on the site since 2004 and has been even more popular this year given it's a bumper crop year for cicadas. Cooking with cicadas has been all over the news this year!
So... where does one buy cicadas? Pretty sure Walmart doesn't carry them :) But seriously, I have heard of them being eaten as a delicacy but wouldn't even know where to buy them. Asian market?
They definitely can be hard to find depending where you live. The bigger Asian markets don't usually carry them (like H-Mart) but try a smaller, neighborhood-style Asian market if you have any near you (at the very least they may be able to tell you where to get them or even order them for you).
