Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

Oven-Crisp Tortilla Chips: Here's an easy way to make your own tortilla chips without frying them. Cut flour tortillas into wedges with kitchen shears or a knife. Place the wedges on an ungreased baking sheet and toast in a 350 degrees F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or till dry and crisp. You'll find they're sturdy for dipping, there's no messy cleanup, and the chips are healthier than those you buy in the store.

This iconic whiskey is a "Jack of all trades" when it comes to cooking. Toss it in some pasta, as a savory dipping sauce, and even bake it into something sweet.
Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

Served this on buttery crackers instead of the tortilla chips. Omitted the jalapeno. Used leftover chicken. This would make a good sandwich spread too!
