Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.

ingredients
3 eggs
2/3 cup milk or cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 slices bread, your choice
1/4 cup butter
directions
In large shallow pan, mix eggs, milk vanilla, and cinnamon.
Place bread slices in a single layer in pan and allow them to soak up liquid. Can be refrigerated overnight at this point.
Melt butter and pour into pan, lifting bread so butter can run underneath. Bake at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes.
Turn bread over and bake another 10 minutes, or until the underside is golden brown.

Taste was good, but there's definitely not enough liquid for the bread, and I even added extra milk. I would probably double it next time, and just add extra bread if there's too much liquid.

Absolutely delicious! My husband and 4 sons loved this as much as I did. I did use 1/2 cup butter instead of 1/4 cup after reading the other 2 reviews and it turned out perfect. We took it hot out of the oven and poured hot syrup over it - wow! We will definitely be eating this more often and I think it will be great to serve when I have guests. Thanks for the recipe.

I really love this recipe. I have made it several times and my picky daughter even eats it. I do increase the butter to 1/2 cup. When I use a thicker bread, I double the liquid mixture let it sit for a few hours then flip it over and let it sit overnight, that way both sides are nice and soaked!

These are REALLY GOOD!!!! I've had my good share of really tasty french toast...and let me tell u...these taste if not equally than BETTER than the ones at Dennys!!! Only thing I noticed dat was a small problem was the amount of bread slices I used. I used regular sandwich-sized bread and the liquid mixure was only enough for 6 slices of bread. When they were done I added some powdered sugar on the top and some syrup and YUUUUUUUUMMY!!! Also, u might want to add 1/2 a cup of butter to the bottom of the pan instead of 1/4...I noticed that it might have slipped out a little easier if you do this. Either way.....THEY ROCKED!!!!!! : D
