The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

2-5 hrs
ingredients
1/2 pound bacon, diced
2 large onions, diced
5 pounds potatoes, grated
1 stick margarine, melted
1 large can (12 ounce size) Milnot
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
6 eggs
directions
Saute diced bacon and onion. Add margarine to melt. Grate raw potatoes into a bowl or colander. Squeeze potatoes in a piece of muslin to remove all water from potatoes. Discard all water from potatoes.
In a large bowl, beat eggs well. Add dry potatoes, bacon and onions, Milnot, salt and pepper.
Pour into greased 9" x 13" roasting pan and bake at 350 degrees F uncovered for approximately 1-3/4 hours or 2 hours until a light brown colored crust appears.
Slice into 3" or 4" squares. Serve with a scoop of sour cream if desired.
As a leftover, it may be fried in butter and eaten as a side dish instead of potatoes. It is great for breakfast with fried eggs.
