Ah, the unassuming envelope of onion soup mix. It's more than just for onion soup (or dip). It adds tremendous flavor (and convenience) in all these recipes.

ingredients
2 cups elbow macaroni pasta, uncooked
1 pound ground beef
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small onion, chopped
2 cans condensed tomato soup
1 soup can water
2 teaspoons sugar
salt and pepper, to taste
directions
Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain. Brown ground beef, garlic and onion in a large skillet. Drain off fat.
Mix the tomato soup with the water and sugar in a small bowl. Add this to the beef. Add the macaroni and cook over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes or until sauce boils and thickens.

This recipe comes pretty close to matching its famed canned counterpart. The only thing missing is some Romano cheese (which you can sprinkle on top to taste). It's quick, easy, cheap and definitely child-friendly. Use lower sodium tomato soup to make it a bit healthier.
