The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.

I needed a recipe to take to a southern food themed luncheon. I'm from the SF bay area and pretty much never make southern recipes let alone bean recipes. The beans were a hit. Everyone loved them, especially those raised around southern food. My husband even requested that I leave him a portion of the beans at home before I left for the party. He was drawn to the kitchen repeatedly by the aroma while they cooked. He thought they were fantastic! One of the easiest recipes I've ever done!
