ingredients
1 pound dried pinto beans
6 cups water
1/4 pound bacon
OR
1 ham hock
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons molasses
1 cup ketchup
Tabasco, to taste
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar, PLUS"PLUS" means this ingredient in addition to the one on the next line, often with divided uses
1/4 cup brown sugar (or substitute to equal)
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
directions
Soak beans in water in soup pot for 8 hours. Bring beans to boil and cook 1 1/2-2 hours, or until soft. Drain, reserving liquid.
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker, using just enough bean liquid to cover everything. Cook on Low 5-6 hours.
