German Sweet & Sour Beans With Bacon

ingredients
4 slices bacon
1/4 cup water
1 cup onion, minced
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 package (9 ounce size) frozen green beans
OR
1 can (1-pound size) green beans
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
directions
Brown bacon until crisp. Remove from skillet. Saute minced onion in bacon drippings until translucent. Stir in flour.
Cook and drain green beans, reserving 1/2 cup liquid. Add reserved bean liquid,water, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper.
Bring to a boil. Stir in beans. Heat through (about 30 minutes). Sprinkle with crisp, crumbled bacon.
