This hit the spot as some serious comfort food. Beef patties are made with ground beef, egg, seasoned bread crumbs, and Worcestershire sauce and then served with a sauce made from sauteed onions and beef broth.

1 pound lean ground beef 1 egg 1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 1/2 tablespoon butter 1 medium onion, thinly sliced 1 1/2 tablespoon all-purpose flour 1 1/4 cup beef broth 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley OR 1 teaspoon dried parsley
directions
Preheat boiler. Spray a foil-lined broiler pan with cooking spray. Combine beef, egg, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce in a large bowl; mix well. Shape into equal oval patties.
Place patties on prepared pan. Broil, turning once, until no longer pink, about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion. Saute until translucent, about 4 minutes. Sprinkle in flour. Cook, stirring continually, about 2 minutes.
Gradually stir broth into skillet. Cook, stirring continually, until sauce thickens, about 2 minutes. Stir in parsley. Pour onion gravy over patties. Serve immediately.
VARIATION: Stir a shredded carrot into the ground beef mixture in step 1 for added color and flavor.
Valerie, I liked your idea for caramelizing the onions so that's what I did. When taking a bite, it was hard to tell the texture difference between the noodles and onions. The only problem was that it all kept slipping off my fork. Maybe I'll use tongs to eat with next time? lol!

I only made one tiny change to this delicious comfort food. Instead of using all butter to saute the onion, I used half butter and half olive oil and let it caramelize, which took about 20 minutes over low heat. I just prefer the flavor of onions that way when they are so prominent in a dish. I served it with egg noodles. Delicious! The beef patties had a lot of flavor and the onion sauce was perfect!

Valerie, I liked your idea for caramelizing the onions so that's what I did. When taking a bite, it was hard to tell the texture difference between the noodles and onions. The only problem was that it all kept slipping off my fork. Maybe I'll use tongs to eat with next time? lol!
