The name, vodka, comes from the Russian phrase zhiznennaia voda, or "water of life". It can be made from everything from potatoes to beets. It's considered to be fairly flavorless which makes it a great liquor for mixed drinks.
Barley And Shrimp Dinner

ingredients
2 teaspoons olive oil, see note
2/3 cup pearl barley
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, cut in halves
1 1/2 cup bottled clam juice or chicken broth
1/2 cup dry white wine
6 ounces shrimp or scallops
1/2 cup fresh green peas
directions
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add barley, garlic and turmeric. Cook, stirring, until barley is golden, about 3 minutes.
Stir in parsley, cherry tomatoes, clam juice and wine. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 40 minutes.
Arrange seafood and peas over the barley. Cover and cook for 5 - 10 minutes or until barley is tender.
