8-12 hours is wayyyyyyyyyy too long to cook beef tips in modern crock pots. 4-6 hours on low should suffice. Flavor is good and not overly salty I think because the wine balances it out a bit.

This recipe is awesome. Matter of fact I am making it again today and it makes the house smell incredible too. The only recommendation I would make is not to use the whole pack of Lipton Onion Soup mix. I cut the packet in half and save the other half for the next time I make it. Reason being is using the whole packet makes it a bit salty for my taste, so using half makes it perfect. I guess it is a matter of taste as to whether to use the whole thing. I also add some cracked pepper, Thyme and a bit of Rosemary to the meat. I serve mine over egg Noodles and service it with either garlic toast or hot crusty bread. The best part is that it's so easy to make and literally takes about five minutes to prepare too.

I tried this recipe and found it to be awful. There was little taste and the meat, although tender, was very dry. My advice is don't. Try something else. I don't think it deserves a rating.
