1/2 cup butter or margarine 1 cup brown sugar 1 egg, beaten 2 cups peeled and diced apples, moistened with lemon juice 1/3 cup chopped nuts 1/2 cup chopped raisins or dates 2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup sour milk
directions
Cream together butter and sugar and add beaten egg, stir in fruit and nuts. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
Place in a loaf pan; let stand for 10 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees F until cooked, about 1 hour. Serve plain or buttered.
Variation For Cupcakes: Fill lined muffin tins 3/4 full with batter, bake at 400 degrees F approximately 30 minutes.
Combine 4 tbsp. icing sugar with 1 tbsp. applesauce, brush mixture over cupcakes.

I made the cupcake variation and they were very good and moist. I did cut down the amount of raisins though and substituted an equal amount of more apples (don't care for raisins). For the nuts, I used walnuts.

I would suggest spraying the loaf pan because it was sticking to my pans.
