ingredients

1/4 cup warm water
1 package active dry yeast
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup warm water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups flour

directions

Grease a coffee can and set aside.

Place the 1/4 cup warm water in a small bowl and sprinkle the yeast evenly over the surface. Let stand until bubbles form on the surface.

In a bowl, combine the dissolved yeast, egg, oil, water, salt, sugar, and 2 cups of the flour. Mix well to combine. Add the remaining flour while stirring until a firm dough is formed.

Place the dough in the prepared coffee can and place in the crock pot. Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 2-3 hours or until the bread is cooked through (tap on the crust and it should sound hollow).

Remove the can from the crock pot (use potholders) and let stand for 5-10 minutes before removing from the can.

Let cool completely then slice. Store the bread in an airtight container.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

Just wanted to know what SIZE coffee can to use...1 lb. or 3 pound.

This turned out pretty well. Not the best bread I've ever had, but I'd make it again. It was pretty easy to make, too. I used disposal aluminum mini-pans because they were the only thing I had that would fit in my crockpot, and they seem to work.

Great Recipe!!!! I used a regular 9X5 loaf pan because a coffee can wouldn't quite fit in my crock pot, and it turned out great!!

I must have done something wrong when trying this recipe last night but it was my first crockpot disaster! I had to throw it away and it was very disappointing because I was dying to try crockpot bread!!
