A crock pot dessert that's both indulgent and easy to make. Combining classic ingredients like chocolate chips, cake mix, and sour cream, this gooey dessert is perfect for those who love their sweets rich and moist.
3/4 cup oil
4 eggs
1 cup water
1 package (3.9 ounce size) instant chocolate pudding mix
1 box chocolate cake mix
1 pint sour cream
6 ounces chocolate chips
Grease the inside of the crock pot or a deep cake pan that will fit inside the crock pot.
In a mixing bowl, combine the oil, eggs, water, pudding mix, and cake mix. Mix on low speed until blended. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula then add the sour cream. Mix until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand then pour the cake batter into the prepared crock pot (or cake pan).
Cover the crock pot and cook on low heat for 3-4 hours or until the dessert is almost set (it won't be firm like a cake, it's more gooey).
Scoop the dessert out with a spatula or large spoon and place in a bowl. Top with vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream.

I've been making this recipe for at least 10 years now. It always turns out good but you have to watch your crock pot. I got a new crock a few years ago and it cooked so differently that it took me a few tries to get this recipe to work again. I cook it either on high for 2 hours or on low for 4 hours and that is usually about the right amount of time. In my old crock pot I could cook it on low for 6 hours and it was perfect.

I have made this great recipe sevearl times and it was a big hit every time. It's the easiest hot fudge cake you can make. I've made it for church, family dinners, football night. Even the guys loved it, especially with vanilla ice cream. I cook it on High for about 3 hours and it turns out great.

I tried this recipe- did everything it said to do and after two hours in my crockpot I could smell it burning! I even sprayed it with cooking spray. After 4 hours I turned it off to let it cool. We still tried to eat it. The middle of the "cake" was not burned, but we could still taste the burnt taste! I have no idea what went wrong here!

This is an outstanding recipe! It is soo easy to prepare and served warm with vanilla ice cream, it is sure to delight. As I write this, I have a crock pot cooking a batch of Chocolate Mess. I saw this on a PBS show on slow cookers and copied it down and tried it. Suffice it to say, I loved it. You will too!!!
