Beer makes batters better, meat more tender, and sauces more flavorful.

This chuck roast barbecue is a delicious and easy way to feed a crowd. The beef is cooked slowly in the crock pot until it is tender and shredded, and then simmered in a flavorful barbecue sauce.

3 pounds beef chuck roast
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
salt and pepper, to taste
1 bottle (18 ounce size) barbecue sauce
Place the roast in the bottom of the crock pot. Sprinkle it evenly with the garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper as desired.
Drizzle the barbecue sauce over the roast to coat it as much as possible.
Do not add water to the crock pot.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the meat is tender enough to shred.
Remove the roast from the crock pot and place on a large cutting board or tray. With two forks, shred the meat. Return the shredded beef to the crock and stir into the sauce.
Cover the crock pot and cook on low for one more hour.
Serve the shredded beef on buns or in tortillas.

Pumpkins aren't just for pies or Halloween decorations. These large, orange gourds - while naturally sweet - also work well in savory dishes. They pair well with poultry and pork (and especially bacon) and their creamy-when-cooked texture blends easily into soups.
