30-60 minutes
ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cut in to pieces
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/8 teaspoon salt
confectioners' sugar for dusting
directions
In food processor or mixer, combine flour, butter, granulated sugar, cardamom and salt. Process or mix until mixture forms fine crumbs.
Pat crumbs together and knead on lightly floured surface until a ball forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firm.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
On a lightly floured surface roll out dough about 3/16 inch thick. With 2 inch star-shaped cookie cutter cut out as many cookies as possible and reserve trimmings.
Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake cookies for 12 to 15 minutes or until bottoms are golden. Transfer to wire wracks and cool slightly.
While cookies are still barely warm, dust tops with confectioners sugar shaken through a sieve. Let cool completely.
Repeat with trimmings and confectioners sugar. Store cookies with waxed paper between layers in tightly covered container up to 2 weeks.
