ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup applesauce
1/2 cup shortening

Browned Butter Glaze
1/3 cup butter
2 cups confectioners' sugar

directions
Mix together all ingredients. If dough is soft, cover and refrigerate until a little firmer.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F oven until almost no indentation remains when touched, about 10 minutes.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Cool and spread with Browned Butter Glaze.
For Browned Butter Glaze: Heat butter over low heat until golden brown.
Remove from heat and stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Beat in hot water until smooth and of desired consistency.
